The place in Warsaw if you want to eat Tex-Mex, Someplace Else at the Sheraton Hotel is a charming, quirky and lively bar that mixes live music with sports and is just as popular with locals as with hotel guests.
Recently redecorated, its minimalist and rather cool style is offset by gold discs and photos of famous musicians on the walls. The idea has been to combine somewhere where you can get a decent bite to eat with a cocktail bar that also offers live music. It is thus poised as a very attractive mid-way option between a formal sit-down dinner and a night out raving. For many, of course, this balance makes it the perfect place to spend the entire evening!
Although the focus of the menu is Tex-Mex – fajitas, quesadillas, hot wings, burgers and chicken fingers – there is more than a hint of Pacific Rim with hot Red Thai curry, spicy tiger prawns, plus Argentinean steaks and baby chicken grilled in a pineapple marinade. Unsurprisingly, the cocktails embrace such classics as mint juleps, margaritas, mojitos and cosmopolitans. A further incentive for an early start is the Happy Hour, which runs from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.
As well as live music – which tends towards the pop/soul/funk end of the spectrum – Someplace Else also has a few large screen TVs showing major sporting events. Thus, while not a sports bar per se, it makes a very good alternative if you prefer something a little calmer. Incidentally, if you’re visiting Krakow there’s a Someplace Else there as well, also located in the Sheraton and offering a similar set-up.
