33 Nowy Swiat Street in Warsaw is an important address to note down in any sightseeing in the Polish capital, as it's the location of Café Blikle Restaurant. The family business was founded in 1869 and has continued trading despite the enormous changes that have taken place during that time.
In the restaurant enjoy a French, English, New York or classic Polish breakfast, the latter of which is recommended by Luke Blikle. There is a variety of salads, gourmet soup with mushrooms, duck in wine sauce, beef Provencal, potato cakes and Polish dumplings. There is also flank steak with asparagus, salmon fillets, fried cod and the omelette with lobster. The latter was the favourite of Gustaf Mannerheim, former President of Finland when he lived in Warsaw from 1911-1914. Choose from a selection of fine wine to accompany your meal. For dessert you can enjoy Café Blikle's homemade raspberry moose cheesecake with a cup of coffee or tea. You can also try the 'Generals Cake' with the addition of marzipan, which was specially prepared for General Charles de Gaulle during his visit to Blikle in 1967.
In the confectionary, treat your sweet tooth to a range of cakes and sweets. The rose-filled doughnut was called the 'King' by the Polish national newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza in February 2013. There is white and milk chocolate, praline chocolate, marzipan, yogurt, real ice cream, sorbets and cakes for different occasions. These are prepared by skilled chefs using specially guarded Blikle family recipes that have been passed down through generations.
Café Blikle Restaurant has been visited by many famous visitors over the course of its illustrious history and is well worth seeing today for those interested in enjoying quality food and drink.
